Protecting Marriage from Outside Intruders
There is a cry in our society that is so frequent that the cries are beginning to sound like a normal part of everyday life. After researching, I found out that the average marriage last about 8 years. 7 years to be exact and add one year to finalize divorces, you will have your 8 year of average marriage in our country.
What’s going on? Married couples experience relationship changes over time. The duties of everyday life seem to take control of our marriage. Children, career, friends, relatives, and church, – all are good but sometimes in the end can way heavy on the marriage.
We let the outside intrude into our marriage, not on purpose, of course, it just happens because we do not protect our marriages and are not praying and acknowledging God. We may believe that as long as we don’t break out of our marriage, nothing bad may enter into it. But this is not so. There are many things that compete for out love, and the forces are so strong, they get between us and our mate and spoils the relationship. Here are some intruders that have been identified ……work, children, internet, computer games, shopping, sports, in-laws, friends, church, financial involvements, illness, addictions, and affairs.
What must I do? Recognize the dangers and put-up well-balanced boundaries. We must learn to say no. Whatever or whoever we’re dealing with, we have to have a clear understanding that only one human being can have top priority in our life. That one human being is “our spouse.” Matthew 19:6 They are no longer two, but one. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no man separate. What must I do? Invest in your nest. Your marriage will be as strong as you invest in it. Matthew 13:45-46 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
